Description:
Growing up at Ørland, I spent countless hours immersing myself in the vast open landscapes, with small hills and remnants of the Second World War scattered around. This unique backdrop, influenced by the presence of the military and its impact on the environment, shaped my perception of the world. As I grew up, the allure of the digital realm captivated my attention, leading me to overlook the beauty that surrounded me. Busy schedules and routines confined me to a bubble of work, eat, sleep and repeat. However, in March 2020, as the pandemic forced us into isolation, a newfound appreciation for my surroundings awakened.
Sharing a cramped 6-square-meter home office with my partner, the need to be outside surged for each day. During our lunchtime walks around the neighborhood, we discovered much had changed since my youth. Houses once filled with memories were now torned down to make way for the new airforce base, altering the landscape irreversibly. Simultaneously, new homes sprouted on previously open fields, symbolizing the continuous cycle of transformation. During these walks, I began to notice the mesmerizing interplay of light and objects, casting a surreal glow upon the scenery. Gentle rays of the sun revealed hidden details, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary visuals. The beauty of untouched nature and the vibrant play of light, became a stark contrast to the confinement we experienced during the pandemic. These passing encounters served as reminders that time fleetly moves, and appreciating the present moment is a gift often overlooked.
Land Marks is my homage to the ever-changing tapestry of Ørland.
